During the period of election campaigning, the number of blog postings increase by more than 9 folds as compared to the period before the election was announced. A total of 3537 blog postings were detected by Trendicate during the period from 1 April to 14 May 2006.

A total of 2258 blog sites and 236 online news sites were monitored during the period from 1 April to 14 May 2006. The high volume of blog articles from numerous blog sites suggests that the notion of “Citizen Journalism” caught on during Singapore General Election 2006. There were numerous postings in blogs sites where bloggers, playing the role of citizen journalists, reported what they saw, heared and felt after attending each election rally.
